6 Foods That Lower Cholesterol
6 Foods That Lower Cholesterol
What up Vida Juicer! Thanks for watching this video and joining me for today’s Wellness Wednesday. Today I’ve got 6 Foods That Lower Cholesterol.
Sometimes when you go to the doctor, they draw blood work, and you may get some surprising news about your cholesterol. Even young adults can find their levels rising, and this puts the body at risk for heart disease and stroke amongst other issues.
It becomes very important to get started lowering those numbers as soon as possible. Your doctor may want to prescribe medication, but there is actually a simple thing you can do that will go a long way: choose your foods carefully. There are numerous foods that will improve your cholesterol numbers to a noticeable degree. To get you started, here is a list of 6 foods that will help you lower your cholesterol for a healthier life.
1. Oats
If you switch to oats in one form or another for your breakfast foods, this can lower your cholesterol levels significantly. Studies have found that eating two servings of oats a day can lower LDL cholesterol numbers by more than 5%. You can eat oats in a number of different ways: oatmeal, granola, or even oat based cereal. I personally like oatmeal with cinnamon or even a little brown sugar best.
2. Red Grapes
Red grapes contain nutrients that can reduce LDL cholesterol levels by as much as 12%. That’s a big difference. You can eat red grapes or even drink a glass of red wine a day. There have been studies done on red grapes and they continue to show this is a powerful way to lower cholesterol.
3. Fish
Fish that is high in omega-3 fatty acids will do a great deal for the body. They can lower the risk of heart disease, lower the chances of developing dementia, and lower cholesterol significantly. The best fish for this purpose include sardines, salmon and tuna.
4. Dark Chocolate
Dark Chocolate is one of my favorites because it is more concentrated and has less sugar. Look for dark chocolate with a high cacao concentrate. This chocolate I like and shown right here is 80% cacao. Dark chocolate is an antioxidant and can increase good cholesterol levels by decreasing the bad levels as well. While milk chocolate can work too, dark chocolate is packed with three times the antioxidants.
5. Garlic
It may give you bad breath, but garlic is great for a number of health benefits, including lowering cholesterol, preventing blood clots, reducing high blood pressure, and preventing infection. Garlic can actually keep cholesterol from sticking to the sides of the arteries. Fresh cloves will offer the most benefit, so get started crushing your own garlic today.
6. Spinach
This leafy green is high in lutein, which is a pigment and can actually provide health benefits including prevention of macular degeneration. Lutein can also prevent heart attacks and ensure cholesterol doesn’t stick to the artery walls as well.
If you want to lower your cholesterol, then simple changes in your diet can help you do just that. The foods we have discussed here will make a difference. Their biggest benefit is they can actually lower your bad cholesterol levels while raising the good. The best part is, these foods have been proven to lower cholesterol and study after study shows the same results. Add them into your diet, keep juicing and enjoy the healthful benefits. That’s it for today. My name is Lionel Correia and Come Juice With Us.
