4 Reasons You Should Stay Away From Soy
Are you eating soy?
For some reason, there are numerous people who will fight tooth and nail in the name of soy….
They swear by it, claiming it is a much better alternative to other foods. They promote soy milk instead of dairy, tofu instead of hamburger, and other soy products to replace virtually everything.
However, there is a big problem with that. Soy is not good for you. Despite what you have heard about it time and again, it is something you should stay away from.
Even though it is heavily promoted, there are more than 150 different scientific studies that indicate soy is not good for you.
Why should you stay away from it then? Let’s go into some of the dangers of soy.
Thyroid Suppression
A study was completed looking at thyroid function and soy consumption. It found that in just a period of three months, soy actually suppressed the thyroid to the point that symptoms included sleepiness and lethargy, constipation, goiters, and general malaise.
This is because soy contains goitrogens, which inhibit the thyroid from properly using iodine.
Protein Inhibitors
Soy also contains something called protease inhibitors, which actually are toxins. They get in the way of the gastrointestinal system properly digesting proteins. As a result, your body will not get the protein it needs to have energy and function properly.
Female Issues
Soy is full of plant estrogens and this can wreak havoc on a woman’s body. The food can cause all sorts of problems with hormone levels and have even shown in studies to mimic a medication used to block estrogen. Women who eat a great deal of soy experience delayed periods and stronger menstrual cramps.
For men, soy can actually raise estrogen levels and lower testosterone, which can interfere with muscle building and can lead to erectile dysfunction as well as other problems.
Soy Is Bad for the Planet
Soy is something called a monocrop. It completely leeches nutrients from the land and doesn’t give anything back. A great deal of soy is fed to livestock, and it makes them sicker. Meat is even injected with soy at times. Beyond that, the vast majority of soy has now been genetically modified and exposed to pesticides and other chemicals.
Not only is soy bad for your health in many different ways, it is also bad for the earth. The crops can completely destroy the earth they are grown in, and they are just poorly grown these days.
As you can see, soy is not what you expected it to be. Despite the fact that soy is constantly promoted as a good thing, there are numerous things wrong with it.
You would be better off choosing non-processed, non-GMO, and all organic foods. Soy isn’t necessarily something you should add in your diet, and it shouldn’t be considered as an alternative to other foods that you otherwise believed were unhealthy for you. Soy isn’t all it’s chalked up to be, and you will be much healthier by avoiding it.
